Morel Is Obliterating Baseballs in Triple-A, Making Case for MLB Assignment
USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Cubs have a very good problem on their hands in Christopher Morel. The outfielder is currently at Triple-A Iowa and is obliterating every single baseball in sight.

In 16 games, Morel is slashing .373 /.486/831 with six home runs. And thanks to Bleacher Nation's Michael Cerami, we know that Morel is actually the best hitter in the minor leagues with a minimum of 61 plate appearances.

Pure insanity.

However, there is currently no place for him on the Major League roster. Anywhere he could play is currently being occupied by a player who is also currently playing at a very high level. Ian Happ, Cody Bellinger, Seiya Suzki. Morel will not replace any of those three barring injury.

That being said, Morel is giving Chicago a good problem to deal with. You can't keep him in the minors forever if he continues to hit like this. His stock has never been higher.

If he doesn't get back to the MLB with the Cubs then the front office could dangle him as trade bait. Plenty of teams could use an outfielder with Morel's skillset and he could be a part of a package that gives a king's ransom in return.

Or, keep him where he is as one of the better insurance policies in the league right now.

Tough decisions, but the excitement surrounding Morel this season appears to be legitimate.
